for Sharks
Every shark saved starts with a person who decided to act. Whether you're on the ground, online, or underwater — there is a place for you in this fight.
Choose Your Mission
Six ways to fight for sharks — from your couch, your campus, your city, or the ocean itself. Pick what fits your life and your skills.
Restaurant Monitor Program
Be our eyes on the ground. Visit restaurants in your city, identify those selling shark fin soup or shark products, and file reports that our team uses to take action — from direct outreach to legal escalation.
- Visit local restaurants and document shark product offerings
- Submit reports via our tracking system
- Follow up with businesses that remove products
- Recruit other local monitors in your area
- Assist in coordinating community pressure campaigns
Social Media Strike Team
Sharks need a voice on every platform. Create and amplify content, respond to misinformation, participate in coordinated campaigns, and help our messaging reach millions of people who have never thought about shark conservation.
- Create shareable graphics, reels, and threads about shark facts
- Respond to media stories that spread shark misinformation
- Coordinate with our team on campaign launch days
- Monitor and report social accounts selling shark products
- Grow our presence on TikTok, Instagram, and X
Citizen Science & Sightings
Real data saves real sharks. Log shark sightings in the wild, contribute to our population tracking database, and help scientists understand where sharks are thriving — and where they're disappearing.
- Log shark sightings with location, species, and behavior data
- Participate in organized survey dives and beach patrols
- Contribute underwater photos and video to our archive
- Work with partner marine biologists on tagging programs
- Help build population baselines for advocacy
Writing & Research Corps
Words change laws. Our writing volunteers draft op-eds, policy letters, legislative comments, blog posts, and advocacy briefs that land on the desks of legislators, journalists, and restaurant owners across the country.
- Write op-eds for local newspapers and online outlets
- Draft letters to legislators supporting shark fin bans
- Research and summarize new shark science for our blog
- Create talking points and campaign copy for our team
- Translate materials into Spanish and other languages
Campus Ambassador Program
Start a movement at your school. Campus Ambassadors build Save The Sharks chapters at colleges and universities — organizing events, spreading awareness, recruiting volunteers, and making shark conservation part of campus culture.
- Launch a Save The Sharks chapter at your college or university
- Organize campus screenings, tabling events, and talks
- Recruit fellow students as volunteers and donors
- Coordinate with local restaurants near your campus
- Earn service hours, internship credit, and references
Dive & Field Research
For certified divers who want to get in the water for conservation. Join organized dive expeditions, assist with shark behavior documentation, support ecotourism initiatives that make living sharks more valuable than dead ones.
- Participate in organized conservation dive expeditions
- Document shark behavior, species, and population data
- Support shark ecotourism operations as advocates
- Assist with underwater photography and videography
- Train and mentor newer volunteer divers
